Laminitis is and remains a nightmare for most horse owners. Whether it’s in the spring when the horse is grazing, in the fall when the grass of the pastures is eaten away, or even in the middle of winter out of nowhere – often enough, horse owners are clueless as to what triggered the laminitis.
Laminitis is actually just a collective term for various inflammatory diseases of the corium. These can arise from different causes and triggers. This is precisely what makes laminitis so difficult to grasp in terms of long-term therapy. In the lecture series on laminitis, we want to take a closer look at the known causes and triggers of laminitis. Also, we will address the issue of which undetected underlying diseases can play a role here.
With this knowledge, every horse owner can look at their horse and its living and feeding conditions with different eyes and suddenly it becomes clear why one horse gets laminitis in spring on lush meadow grass, while the other horse, which had no problems at all in spring suddenly gets laminitis in fall on the gnawed paddock “out of the blue”.
